Manchester United

Early History

Manchester United were founded in 1878 originally under the name Newtown Heath by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot and would play games against other railway teams. On the 20th of November 1880 they played in their first ever recorded match wearing the railway company colours green and gold. By 1888 the club had become a founding member of the Combination a regional football league at the time.


Busby Years


in October 1945 Matt Busby was appointed manager of Manchester United. Busby led the team to second place finishes in the league in 1947, 1948, 1949 and an FA Cup victory in 1948. In 1952 the club won their first league title in 41 years. They won back to back titles in 1956 and 1957. The squad had an average age of 22 which led to the nickname "The Busby Babes". 6th of February the team were in an unfortunate plane crash after refueling in Munich,Germany. The crash took the lives of 23 passengers including 8 players who were Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Billy Whelan.


Ferguson years


Alex Ferguson arrived at Manchester United during the 1987/88 season helping the club reach an 11th place finish. In 1990 Alex Ferguson was almost sacked as manchester united manager if it wasn't for a FA cup Final win against Crystal Palace. In 1998/99 season Alex Ferguson managed Manchester United to become the first team to win the premier league, FA cup and Champions league treble in the same season. May 8th 2013 Alex Ferguson Announced his retirement as Manchester United Manager and Manchester united announced a day later that Current Everton Boss David Moyes would replace Alex Ferguson.

Present

Today Manchester United are under the management of Erik Ten Hag and have recently won another league cup, are in the semi final of the FA cup and the quater final of the Europa League as well as 3rd in the premier league table.
